FMI 2024 at a Glance
Virtual Pre-Conference Training
We are thrilled to announce some exciting additions to this year’s conference. As a supplement to our traditional offerings, we are delighted to share the introduction of a pre-conference Domestic Violence/ Intimate Partner Violence (“DV/IPV”) 4-hour training. This specialized training is offered in partnership with Laura’s House, a non-profit located in Southern California providing comprehensive domestic violence programs and services with the goal of breaking the cycle of domestic violence and empowering victims to move beyond the abuse and live fulfilling lives. The training is designed to provide valuable insights and skills to professionals working with clients that may be impacted by domestic or intimate partner violence.
Friday Night Award Reception & Mixer
The Friday Night Award Reception and Mixer will take place at The Reef Restaurant in Long Beach where Marvin Whistler will receive the Forrest “Woody” Mosten SCMA Star Award for Excellence and Innovation in Family Mediation.
This is a great opportunity to network and mingle with other conference attendees while enjoying the beautiful view of the Long Beach Harbor.
Saturday Keynote & Closing Speakers
If you are a family dispute professional you will not want to miss this incredible conference that is full of amazing speakers and workshops from beginning to end. We will be kicking off this year’s FMI with Keynote Speakers, Forrest Woody Mosten and Judge Elizabeth Scully as they share with us invaluable tools to help our clients develop workable and sustainable agreements. We will then be closing out the conference with Author, Coach, and Podcaster, Kate Anthony. Kate is the author of The D Word: Making the Ultimate Decision About Your Marriage, host of the critically acclaimed and New York Times recommended podcast The Divorce Survival Guide Podcast and the creator of the groundbreaking online coaching program, Should I Stay or Should I Go?
These three experts are not to be missed, and their presentations will surely leave you with valuable takeaways to apply to your mediation practice.
We are excited to announce that this year we will be featuring two specialized tracks dedicated to divorce mediation and family mediation.
Track 1 will feature:
- Zach Taylor where he will discuss mortgage and divorce.
- Laurie Itkin and Jami Fosgate will guide us through equity compensation
- Shawn Weber and Robin Seigle will help us identify blocking issues to move clients to reasonable proposals.
Track 2 will feature:
- Lucia Galante Johnson who will take us through the world of probate including conservatorship and guardianship.
- Terri Breer will share with us how to create transformative outcomes in mediation where the subject dispute involves the special relationships between family members
- The CSU Dominguez Hills panel will discuss how Family Mediation impacts the divorcing couple and their children but also the impact at the community and global level.
The SCMA is thrilled to provide four pre-recorded webinars to supplement the already stellar line-up for the Family Mediation Institute. This recording bundle includes recordings from Woody Mosten, Susan Guthrie, Bero Porter, and Darlene Taylor. All Saturday Conference registrations automatically include the pre-recorded webinar bundle. If you will not be attending the Saturday Conference, the bundle can be purchased separately.
